The urgency of now

As a pandemic sweeps across the world, millions of us have been confined to our homes and many are experiencing significant disruption through the loss of work and livelihoods.

There is one thing we know for sure: this isn't a moment to pause our efforts to bring our communities together and organize for change.

In these times of great uncertainty, leadership is needed now more than ever to inspire the courage and hope in others to take the risks involved to deal with these challenges.

Seizing the moment to build the leadership we need

Rising to this unique moment, we're launching the Leading Change School to deliver online and accessible training which will build your capacity to lead change.

Our network is made up of world-class online educators, with over 10 years experience delivering training and coaching online. In the last 6 years alone our network of 225 educators have built the capacity of 32,000 people to lead change in their communities through online and in-person training.

Our approach to creating change is rooted in a style of leadership that enables people to step forward together in the face of uncertainty.

We do this by building their leadership, skills, and capacity to build power to respond to challenges with agency --- a pedagogical approach developed after decades of organizing on the ground by Marshall Ganz, his students and collaborators in the civil rights, labor and environmental movements, electoral politics and other domains.

When & Where

Organizing for Change will teach LCN’s pedagogy for organizing, developed by professor Marshall Ganz and his associates.

Our pedagogy is grounded in five key leadership practices:

1. Public Narrative  — Telling an authentic powerful story of Self, Us and Now to engage people and tie your movement together

2. Relationships — Building deep, values-based relationships that are the glue of organizing, including perfecting the famous 1:1 conversation

3. Team structure — Building interdependent leadership teams that unite diverse groups of members with a shared purpose

4. Strategy — Shaping a theory of change, tactics and timeline that builds on the unique resources and capacity of your members and turns it into the power necessary for achieving what you need

5. Action (mobilizing) —  Moving people to take creative action (tactics) with a compelling story of now, and deploying resources in a way that builds them further

Narrative for Change online course

Narrative is a leadership skill that creates emotional capacity for people to respond to a challenge. In crafting our narrative we use our stories.

Our stories are powerful. They help us to communicate our values as lived experiences, not only abstract concepts. They’re able to move people to action and inspire change by evoking our shared values.
